June opening for Hackney’s newest artists’ studios

Acme Studios is opening 49 studios for artists in E9 in June 2012 as part of a major development on the site of the former Lesney Matchbox Toys Factory on Homerton Road.

Matchmakers Wharf studios are close to Hackney Wick, an area with a large number of artists’ studios but where the long-term future of many buildings is uncertain due to redevelopment of the area. Supported by Hackney Council, Matchmakers Wharf studios are the first purpose-built, affordable studios in Hackney and will be a permanent resource for the borough.

Jonathan Harvey, Chief Executive, Acme Studios explains, ‘Acme Studios is committed to ensuring the long-term future of affordable studios in London. We have had a presence in Hackney for almost 40 years and are delighted we will be continuing to provide high-quality studios at affordable rent levels in the borough.’
Matchmakers Wharf Studios have been developed by Acme in partnership with Telford Homes Plc. The project has been part-financed by Arts Council England’s Grant for the arts – capital fund.
