Do you want to put life back into your high street or town centre?
Are you part of a Town Team, have you bid to become one of the Portas Pilots, or are you just someone who wants to get on and improve the centre of your community? If so, then High Street Camp is for you!
High Street Camp (#highstcamp on Twitter) is an unconference - a chance for people who want to get things done to get together, hear from people who've already had a go, share experiences and come up with new ideas.
It's a participative event, not a series of lectures or presentations - a chance to roll your sleeves up and work with other people who share your concerns and interests.
We'll be using the Library Lab at Willesden Green, north London, which has lots of good workshop spaces and is in a local centre that illustrates some of the difficulties and opportunities high streets are currently facing.
There is no charge for the event but we'll ask for voluntary donations on the day to help cover costs, or you can contact us if you'd like to sponsor the event and have your logo on the High Street Camp page.
The provisional programme is:
10 -10.30 arrive
10.30-11 introductions and networking
11-12 - themed workshops looking at broad issues - eg how to make your high street greener, empty shops, local loyalty schemes, community asset development. The idea is to share what you have done, identify tricky issues and agree at least one idea that will be worked up in the afternoon sessions. If you'd like to run a workshop, please contact us.
12-12.45 feedback from each workshop to everyone.
12.45-2pm lunch
2-3.30 teams work to develop solutions to problems they identified in the morning session.
3.30-4.30 teams present their work pecha kucha style
4.30 conclusion
...and time to socialise afterwards!
We'll put the ideas presented in the afternoon together in a short report that we'll publish later for the benefit of people who can't make it on the day, and (we hope) to inspire people for more events in future.
