from Empty Shop to Art Gallery

In April 2009 with the assistance of the new landlord and Croydon Economic Development we accessed a derelict shop at 93 Church Road, Crystal Palace. We cleared, cleaned, painted and installed an exhibit of local artists work. The gallery (www.biggerpicturegallery.co.uk) has been going like gangbusters bringing out residents, business community and numerous local artists.

Relief for empty premises extended in today's pre-Budget report

Chancellor Alistair Darling presented his pre-Budget report today. The measure introduced last year has now been extended into the next tax year. For 2009/2010, properties with a rateable value of up to £15,000 are exempt. The relief will be extended to 2010/2011 for empty commercial properties with a rateable value of up to £18,000.

Herne Hill

Any Herne Hillbillies in this forum? I'm looking to open a pop-up shop at Brockwell Park end of Rosendale Rd. There is a tandoori restaurant that's had it's shutters down for about 9 years and a butchers that I don't remember ever being open. Anyone happen to know anything about these properties?
