Reuse it Yourself - Setting up centres to reuse building products

The US has around 500 centres to reuse building materials to the DIY sector. This does not happen much yet in the UK (except a few enterprises just starting and one in Brighton). By collecting from building sites (surplus materials, otherwise crushed, burnt or landfilled) you get to save waste, save carbon, accumulate stuff that can sold and thereby create new local jobs. 400 bricks is about 1 tonne weight and 1/2 tonne CO2 emissions. Going out there and doing market research



This is an old tyre shop in South London that a group of us are looking to turn in to a popular co-operative supermarket. We're raising funding just now from public and private sources to do the place up.



I'll post some pictures over the next few days but as part of our market research in to its future use, this weekend we are at a big local Country Fair and about twenty volunteers are hawking around a questionnaire asking people… Continue
