This project is an exciting opportunity to revive and improve Willesden High Road bringing positive change to the area. The project runs from October 2011 to March 2012 and will be delivered in two phases.
From October to December a curated series of window animations was installed along the High Road marking the 25 days leading up to Christmas. Local shopowners were paired with emerging young designers to produce an advent calendar of window displays in Willesden with a new Willesden window opening each day. In addition a series of events attracting new visitors to Willesden were held in December 2011 and a flagship shop front was opened to the public, communicating future opportunities relating to the project.
In January 2012 Phase 2 was launched and it was announced that 8 empty units were available to use for new projects, business ideas and community focused activity. Over 2 weeks in January and February Meanwhile Space ran workshops attended by over 200 people all interested in using space in Willesden Green.
The workshops were to help potential applicants build on their ideas to strengthen their proposal and view the spaces. To see images of the work shops and the spaces that were being made available please view the album here.
On the 14th February over 40 proposals were received by the New Windows on Willesden Green team. Interviews are taking place on the 17th and 20th February and we expect projects to be moving in on the 5th March. Watch this space!
The space being curated by the project is Queens Parade, a former textiles shop on Willesden Lane.
