How Do You Get Started

Hello, I want to know what to do to make use of the increasing number of empty shops on North End Road, Hammersmith & Fulham.

-... Startby finding out who owns the properties, it maybe owed by the council. They should have a list for you

Hi Erel
At moment we have space for public activity in a space in Wembley called The Coming Soon Club. You can visit the website here or contact my colleague Alison Minto for more information on alison@meanwhilespace.com.
We have recently launched a property matching service called Meanwhile Connect that might be of interest. Meanwhile Connect matches landlords who are interested in finding an interim use for their space with projects. There are a variety of spaces on there which are scattered around London. To apply for one of these spaces please complete the attached proposal and send it to me with the reference of the space you are interested in.

If you are looking to get hold of your own space there are various tools we've developed to help and you can find our more about our work here www.meanwhilespace.com or about the national Meanwhile Project which we deliver to promote the concept here www.meanwhile.org.uk.  There are loads of resources on the Meanwhile Project website such as toolkits (our empty shops workbook is available here: http://www.meanwhile.org.uk/useful-info/manuals/shop-manual), leases, guides etc there plus make sure you sign up to the meanwhile ning (www.meanwhilespace.ning.com) where we have over 1200 members all sharing issues, ideas and ways around the barriers to meanwhile activities.  It's also where we announce news on resources, spaces and other projects so it would be a good way to stay in touch.

If you can find the name of a landlord, it is worth pulling together a 2 page proposal for using the space, keep it as professional as possible and highlight the benefits to him (have a look at the benefits doc available here http://www.meanwhile.org.uk/useful-info/manuals/Benefits_Landlords.pdf). Make it easy for him to say yes: give information on your experience so far, say you can design it, draw up leases (available on the meanwhile project website) etc, who you will market to, how often it will be open, and who will be responsible.

Thanks for this.  I have been in touch with Alison also.  This give me quite a bit to get on with.  If I have any more questions I will definitely get back to you!  The work you guys are doing is great! I hope to make a contribution soon!

Thanks! I'm devouring all this information. One last thing, I'm missing is where to look for appropriate funding to set an intermediary project up.  I notice that The Coming Soon Club seems to be well funded.
