This is a discussion forum for those interested in collaborating in the New Windows on Willesden Green project. If you are looking for someone to collaborate with add your email and a message describing a little about your project.
This is a completely informal place to connect and network with others who might be applying to the project.
Please find attached a word version of the proposal form and a building plan of Queens Parade. Please remember that it is units 1-8 that we have access to and the pilot shop which is 45 Walm Lane.
To see images of Pilot Shop please click here, to see images of Queens Parade please click here.. To view more info about the project please revisit the Willesden Windows website.
Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions that you missed at the workshops. DOWNLOAD THE NOTES ON CHALLENGES HERE.

Permalink Reply by Emily Berwyn on February 9, 2012 at 11:01am Just want to update people with the use class of Queens Parade. The property has A1 use, and a good summary of A1 is provided below:
This Class includes use for all or any of the following purposes:-
a) for the retail sale of goods other than hot food.
b) as a post office.
c) for the sale of tickets or as a travel agency.
d) for the sale of sandwiches or other cold food for consumption off the premises.
e) for hairdressing.
f) for the direction of funerals.
g) for the display of goods for sale.
h) for the hiring out of domestic goods or articles.
i) for the washing and cleaning of clothes or fabrics on the premises.
j) for the reception of goods to be washed, cleaned or repaired.
k) as an internet café, being a place where the primary purpose of the premises is to provide facilities for enabling members of the public to access the internet (added in 2005).
A general proviso is that the sale, display or service is to visiting members of the public thus excluding trade or wholesale showrooms/warehouses and mail order establishments.
Permalink Reply by Joanna Steele on February 9, 2012 at 6:10pm Hi Emily,
I hope your well.
I looked at the same forum, and it seems fairly clear, thanks! :)
Though, if we wish to serve hot drinks, or have the majority of cold food served on site, some say you need A3. Within the same forum it suggests 'Some lease will prohibit a change of use to A3 (from a1) or there could be a payment to the landlord to allow for permission'
Before we go to the council, may I ask if this is anything we would need to discuss with the landlord?
Thank you in advance!

If anyone would like a space for an event, i.e music, film night, lectures or comedy and such, please let us know! If you have the equipment, for example a microphone or projector, this would be a great help to keeping costs down and enable us to put on as many events as possible!
Please send an e-mail to joanna.steele@gmail.com if you need a space, for an event or workshop that you would like to see on Willesden Green high street!
Thanks all!

Just got a response from planning about A1/A3 query for hot drinks: "I would say no, A3 wouldn’t be needed for selling some hot drinks where the primary use is the retail of other items. Some coffee shops do run as A1, it is just when hot food is introduced or the majority of trade becomes people visiting for the purpose of consuming drinks on the premises, if this remains an ancillary use to the main retail function I wouldn’t be of the opinion that it would change the Use Class.
Hope that helps a bit!

Permalink Reply by Faye Cheung on February 23, 2012 at 9:35am Motiroti is an arts organisation that explores migration. As Willsden Green has a history of migration some of you may be interesting in collaborating with us. For people who can’t commit to the full four days or who are looking for some extra activities/workshops to supplement your own project you may be interested in past motiroti projects such as:
- Potluck: An open kitchen for social art making, in which everyone is invited to bring and take from the table. Using food sharing as a core approach, participants are all each other's guests and hosts.
- Streets of Gold: artists who have recently migrated into London created an artwork responding to the history of London using objects from the Museum of London. A much more scaled down version of these could see locals getting involved in a one day art project. One of the installations in Streets of Gold asks ‘When does London become home?’. This could be made into a series of workshops for migrant communities in the area, or an ongoing part time project during the time which you are running your unit.
- Amaze: a digital arts installation presenting unheard stories of the young people of Islington – again could do a scaled down version of this with local young people.
Look at motiroti's portfolio for more information http://www.motiroti.com/
We are unable to commit to running a unit but would be keen to do some one off/part time activities with another group. Let me know if anyone is interested in the possibility of collaborating with an arts organisation like motiroti.
